Broadly speaking I am a measurement
theorist, statistician, and applied mathematician. My
research has branched to many areas in statistics,
mathematical science of measurement, psychometric, and
scientific methodology.
As is evident from my publications, my program of research
has elements of working at the foundations of my discipline,
including philosophy of science, scientific methodology, and
the intersection of measurement and statistical science.
I take a problem-solving point of view for my research in
that the research is not tied to any area of statistics or
measurement and I learn new things (e.g., new developments
in mathematical analysis) as necessary to solve a new
scientific problem.
Over the last 31 years my interdisciplinary
program of research has emerged to have broad
interdisciplinary impact and as such is well-recognized in a
variety of disciplines including psychology, applied social
science research (quality of life and well being),
assessment, educational research, language testing, health
and human development.
The applied work, in the end, feeds by basic program of
research in research methodology and measurement. My
scholarly life is driven by an immense curiosity and desire
to learn, as well as a great deal of energy and commitment
to learning, knowledge translation and dissemination.
